1959 Jaguar Mark II Sedan 1:18

Bburago has always offered nice models in the upper mid-range of quality, at least IMO. That said, this is my first one in an exclusively Franklin Mint collection. This car was simply not available anywhere else, and my wife loves this model of Jag, so I decided to give it a shot. Verdict: Truly impressive for the price, but there's that "but". Working independent suspension, wired and detailed engine, nice interior with good dash detail, tight panel gaps, beautiful wire wheels with delicate spokes, are all good. However, the paint is only middling in quality, IMO. It is excellent on the top and trunk areas, but pretty badly rippled or "orange peeled" on the hood. This is an important panel for the overall impression, and I haven't decided whether to try polishing it out yet. That is because I suspect the ripples there may be the finish of the underlying diecast piece itself, and I'm not anxious to open that can of worms. It should be the equal of the top and trunk in quality. So that's what took off that one star. The paint is also micro thin on the sides, and coverage could be better, especially around the rear fenders. It's acceptable, but the paint often makes or breaks the quality of the model, which is why I've stuck with Franklin Mint over the years. Never a disappointment in paint. So this is a place where they cut costs a bit in this Bburago, but I would still recommend it, because of the working features and good detail. I don't think it would hold up well with a child playing with it. But for display, it has the presence 1:18 offers, and it looks gorgeous in the red with a tan interior. I'll be keeping it.
