1970 GAZ Volga M-21 - black 1:24 Scale Diecast Model by Lucky

For the price, this is an excellent diecast model. After all, where else can you find a model of the Gaz Volga? The detail is of high quality. The gloss paint is excellent! It seems like Lucky puts more quality into their models than other makers. Plus, it's seems to be a true 1:24 scale model, so you can display it with any other models of the same size. When I picked up this Volga the first time it felt like plastic; it isn't. Newer diecast models must be pot metal. The alloy mfgs are using has to be cast really heavy so the car doesn't get broken. Not this GAZ; it must be quality aluminum/zinc alloy. (Lead no longer passes U.S. product safety tests.) Since this light model is on a dual tandem car carrier I made, it is always around, and I admire the Volga's chrome window molding, rain gutters, fender welt, bumpers and baleen grill. I haven't discovered how to update a review on Fairfield Collectibles' site. I often write reviews because someone gave an undeserved review to a product; this review is for that purpose. Lol; I'm writing a review to balance my own review! I first rated Lucky's quality three stars because the metal diecasting was so light. Now that I think about it, the clunky heavy diecast cars aren't as advanced as this lightweight GAZ Volga M-21. We have a dual tandem car carrier that I built and it cannot handle too much tongue weight, so the Volga has a permanent spot on the front of the rear trailer. The finish is nice too. I don't remember any other reasons to disrate the Lucky model. Maybe because there isn't a steel axle straight through from one wheel to the other side. The tires'll never come off though, a big plus for 'operators'. (Posted on 4/11/2018)

If you count the hood and trunk (boot & bonnet) only two of the five doors of this shiny black 'limo' open. OK for operators, collectors might be disappointed, but where else can you get a Gaz Volga. I was going to say that operators will be happy since the M-21 appears to have steel axles; it doesn't. The tires (tyres) are tightly mounted on the wheels, but plastic axles are prone to breaking by overenthusiastic drivers (children). Still, for $12.00 it is an inexpensive addition to my stable of 1/24 scale cars for our 45 car carriers. (Two are on permanent loan.) Lucky has almost outdone Gaz in the cheap department; it is the lightest 1/24 scale diecast model we have, even the 1958 Corvette. I scraped the inside of a rear fender skirt; it's metal. A pretty model with the chrome bumpers, fender welt, rain gutter and baleen grill. (Posted on 3/15/2018)
