American Muscle 1:18 Scale Diecast Split Window Vette by Auto World – Scale Model Review
One of the most sought after Corvettes ever made. This scale model diecast replica of the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray Coupe is one of the most accurate C2 Vettes ever produced in 1:18 scale diecast. The details on Auto World’s 1963 Sting Ray are astounding…but first a bit of history.
The revolutionary Chevrolet C2 Corvette was born in 1963 after five years of race track development. The chassis and all-new independent suspension and transaxle were developed by Zora Arkus-Duntov giving the C2 Vette incredible performance and handling. Bill Mitchell provided the distinctive Sting Ray styling from his beloved Mako Shark and XP-700 concept cars. What makes the 1963 model year so collectible is the dorsal spine running down the roof, bisecting the rear window and ending at the tail. This controversial design element was only used in 1963 which is why the ’63 Corvette Coupes are known as Split Window Coupes. Bill Mitchell’s inspiration for this design element was the legendary 57SC Bugatti Atlantic.
Auto World pulled out all of the stops in their American Muscle release of this authentic diecast 1963 Corvette Coupe. The 1:18 scale Riverside Red paint is buffed to a high gloss with triple white stripes running from the tip of the nose to the end of the tail. To improve aerodynamics the headlights are hidden but can be rotated “opened” on this well executed diecast scale model…just like the real car. The doors are cut high into the roof for easy access by helmeted racers just like those found on the original ’63 Sting Ray. Opening the doors provides a clear view of the Corvette’s new fighter cockpit inspired interior. And of course you’ll find that authentic dorsal ridge running across the roof and bisecting the rear windows.
This finely researched and appointed 1:18 scale Sting Ray diecast recreates one of only 199 Z06 Coupes built by Chevrolet in 1963. This first ever Z06 option package, it included a 360 hp fuel-injected L84 V-8 under a vented hood, 4-speed transmission and race ready suspension and brakes. Finally – this miniature marvel includes Sting Ray inspired chrome bumpers front and rear, dozens of individual chrome parts and turbine wheels with knockoff style spinner hubs.
