Plastic model kits from AMT trace back to the dealer-showroom promotional models the brand pioneered in 1948, and the same 1:25 scale focus carries through today's kits — from stock muscle cars and classic trucks to officially licensed movie and pop-culture tie-ins. Unlike a pre-built diecast replica, every AMT kit is designed to be assembled and finished by the builder.

About AMT

AMT (Aluminum Model Toys) was founded in 1948 in Michigan, originally producing dealer-showroom promotional models — miniature stand-ins for new cars that were hard to keep in stock in the early postwar years. The company's shift from aluminum to plastic tooling in the 1950s made complex car-body shapes affordable to mass-produce, and in 1958–59 AMT introduced its influential 3-in-1 Customizing Kit format, letting builders assemble the same kit as a stock, custom, or hot-rod version. AMT has changed ownership several times since — through Lesney, then Ertl — and has been part of Round 2 Corporation since 2012.

What Makes AMT Collectible

AMT's catalog spans classic American muscle cars, trucks, and show rods in 1:25 scale, plus officially licensed kits tied to film and pop culture — from the 1966 Batmobile to Star Trek's U.S.S. Enterprise and, more recently, movie-specific vehicles like John Wick's Chevelle. Because each kit ships unassembled and unpainted, builders can customize paint, stance, and finish to their own standard rather than owning a fixed factory presentation — the same flexibility the original 3-in-1 format was built around.

Popular AMT Lines

AMT's current catalog under Round 2 includes:

Showroom Replicas: Reissues and new tooling of AMT's classic promotional-model-style car kits.
Licensed pop-culture kits: Officially licensed vehicles from film and television, including Star Trek and Batman.
