Plastic model kits from Revell span cars, aircraft, and licensed pop-culture builds in scales from 1:12 up through 1:48, tracing back to a Hollywood hobby shop that began producing kits in 1943. Like other kit brands, every Revell release ships unassembled and unpainted, ready for the builder to finish rather than arriving as a pre-built diecast replica.

About Revell

Revell began in 1943 when Lewis H. Glaser founded Precision Specialties in Hollywood, California, later marketing its plastic kits under the Revell name. The American company merged with Monogram Models in 1986 to form Revell-Monogram, and ownership has changed hands several times since — through Hallmark Cards, Hobbico, and, since 2018, Quantum Capital Partners — while a separate German operation, Revell GmbH, has manufactured and distributed Revell kits in Europe since 1956. Most Revell kits today are produced in Poland and China.

What Makes Revell Collectible

Revell's catalog spans classic muscle cars, big rigs, aircraft, and officially licensed kits tied to film and television — including a run of Stranger Things vehicle kits alongside longtime licensed subjects like Smokey and the Bandit's Trans Am. The brand's decades-long back catalog, including collaborations with customizers like Ed "Big Daddy" Roth in the 1960s, gives builders access to tooling that spans multiple eras of automotive and pop-culture history.

Popular Revell Lines

Revell's current catalog includes several recognizable formats:

2'N1 / 3'N1 kits: Builder kits that can be assembled as multiple versions of the same vehicle.
Licensed film & TV kits: Officially licensed vehicles from franchises including Stranger Things.
Heavy-duty trucks: Kenworth and Peterbilt semi tractor kits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Revell kits come pre-assembled?
No — like other model kit brands, Revell kits ship unassembled and unpainted for the builder to finish.

Is Revell an American or German company?
Both, historically — Revell began in the U.S. in 1943, while a separate German operation, Revell GmbH, has produced and distributed Revell kits in Europe since 1956; the brand is now based in Germany.

What scales does Revell use?
It varies by subject, spanning roughly 1:12 up through 1:48 across cars, trucks, and aircraft kits.

Does Revell make licensed pop-culture kits?
Yes — recent examples include a series of Stranger Things vehicle kits alongside longstanding licensed subjects like Smokey and the Bandit's Trans Am.

What is a 2'N1 or 3'N1 kit?
A builder kit format that lets the same kit be assembled as more than one version of the vehicle, similar in spirit to AMT's classic 3-in-1 kits.
