Shop prewar classic diecast cars at Fairfield Collectibles, replicating the Art Deco-era automobiles built before 1940. Our lineup from Motormax and more covers boattail speedsters, Packards, and other prewar American icons in true-to-era detail.

Why Collect Prewar Classic Diecast Cars?

Prewar cars — generally referring to vehicles built before 1940 — represent the earliest era most diecast manufacturers replicate, a period defined by long hoods, running boards, and hand-built coachwork that hasn't existed on a production car since. Collectors drawn to this era are often as interested in early automotive design history as in the vehicles themselves, and prewar models tend to occupy a distinct, easily separated shelf from more modern diecast collections.

Leading Brands in Prewar Classic Diecast

Motormax: a mainstay of this category, spanning multiple American marques.
Sunstar: collector-grade finishes with exceptional paint depth on prewar coachwork.
Greenlight: licensed prewar releases with accurate period detailing.
Oxford Diecast: prewar commercial and passenger vehicles.

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as a "prewar" classic car?
Prewar generally refers to vehicles produced before 1940, ahead of World War II's disruption of civilian auto manufacturing — our Prewar Classics collection spans roughly the 1920s through the late 1930s.

What's the difference between Prewar Classics and Fifties Classics?
Prewar Classics covers pre-1940 coachbuilt-era cars with running boards and long hoods; Fifties Classics jumps ahead to the postwar tailfin-and-chrome era of the 1950s — the two look and display quite differently side by side.

Are prewar diecast models based on real, specific vehicles?
Yes — manufacturers like Sunstar and Motormax replicate specific documented vehicles (a 1930 Packard LeBaron or a boattail speedster, for example) rather than generic period shapes.

How should I display prewar classic diecast models?
A glass-front display case works especially well for prewar models, since their long hoods and open coachwork detail benefit from being viewed from the side rather than stacked on a shelf.
