There are fast cars, and then there are ridiculously fast cars. The latter is the type of machine that becomes a legend. The Shelby 427 Cobra S/C® is one of those legends. The product of retired racer Carroll Shelby's considerable imagination and skill, the original 1962 Cobra was based on a British-built AC Ace roadster that was methodically reworked by Shelby's team in Los Angeles. Powered by Ford small-block V-8 engines, Shelby's earliest Cobras quickly earned respect on the street and success on the track. Never one to be satisfied, in 1965 Shelby found more performance—and speed— in Ford's big-block 427-cubic-inch V-8. It was good for about 425 horsepower and in the Cobra delivered a 0-60 mph time of less than four seconds. That's more than quick enough for a legend. Revell's 1/24-scale model kit represents the ultimate street Cobra, the rare S/C (semi-competition) version that in reality was a thinly disguised race car.
