The USS Enterprise (CV-6) was one of the most famous and highly decorated aircraft carriers in U.S. naval history. Commissioned in 1938 it played a pivotal role in the Pacific Theater during World War II earning the nickname The Big E. Serving as a flagship in numerous key battles the ship participated in iconic confrontations such as the Battle of Midway the Battle of the Philippine Sea and the Battle of Leyte Gulf.
