About the 101st Airborne
Activated in 1942 and nicknamed the "Screaming Eagles," the 101st Airborne Division trained for parachute and glider assault operations. It parachuted into Normandy ahead of the June 1944 D-Day landings, took part in Operation Market Garden, and held the town of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge while surrounded by German forces.
