About the 43rd Regiment of Foot
Raised in 1741 and known as the Monmouthshire Regiment, the 43rd served in the American Revolutionary War and the Napoleonic Wars. Later renamed the 43rd (Monmouthshire) Light Infantry, it became known for light infantry tactics emphasizing speed, skirmishing and marksmanship, and it fought in the Peninsular War under the Duke of Wellington. It was later absorbed into the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry.
