About the A-26 Invader
First reaching front-line service in 1944, the A-26 Invader went on to serve in every major U.S. conflict of the following two decades, including the Korean War, the war in Indochina and, in later variants, the Vietnam War. The most widely produced version, the B model, mounted between six and eight Browning M2 .50-caliber machine guns in a solid nose, and its rugged structure could also carry 20mm or 37mm cannons or a 75mm howitzer in place of the guns. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engines producing 2,000 horsepower each, the Invader could reach a top speed of 570 km/h even at full operational load.
