About the Boeing 747
The Boeing 747 took its maiden flight in February 1969 and entered commercial service the following year, becoming the first widebody "jumbo jet" and shaping long-haul air travel for decades. Its distinctive upper-deck hump and four-engine layout made it among the most recognizable airliner designs ever built. The final passenger-oriented variant, the 747-8, remained in production long after twin-engine widebodies came to dominate long-haul routes.
