About the XPBB-1
Named the "Sea Ranger" and later the "Lone Ranger" after the project's cancellation, the XPBB-1 had a 139.8-foot wingspan and outperformed the four-engine PB2Y Coronado and twin-engine PBM Mariner, with a range of 4,720 miles. It shared much of its wing design with the B-29, but the Navy's need for that aircraft's production capacity ended the XPBB-1 program.
