The 24th (2nd Warwickshire) Regiment of Foot played a central role in the Anglo-Zulu War, earning lasting recognition for its courage and discipline. Soldiers of the regiment fought at the disastrous Battle of Isandlwana, where many were overwhelmed after a determined Zulu assault. Later the same day, a small force, including men from the 24th Foot, successfully defended the mission station during the Battle of Rorke's Drift against repeated attacks by thousands of Zulu warriors. Their steadfast defense became one of the British Army's most celebrated actions, exemplifying courage, discipline, and endurance under overwhelming odds.
