About the C-97 Stratofreighter
Derived from the Boeing B-29 Superfortress, the C-97 Stratofreighter entered service in 1947 as a long-range military transport, with 888 built across its variants before the type left service in 1978. C-97s such as Angel of Deliverance helped carry supplies into West Berlin during the 1948-1949 Berlin Airlift, when Allied aircraft resupplied the blockaded city by air.
