About this book
After Rome fell to the Americans in 1944, Allied numbers were reduced as experienced troops were recalled for the invasions of Normandy and southern France. Forces from the US, UK, France, New Zealand, South Africa, Poland and India continued the advance through Rome, Pisa, Leghorn, Lake Trasimene, Ancona and Florence in pursuit of the withdrawing Germans. Historian Pier Paolo Battistelli uses maps, diagrams and period images to cover this final push from Rome toward the Gothic Line.
