About the Ju 87G "Kanonenvogel"
Introduced to counter the growing number of Soviet armored vehicles on the Eastern Front after 1943, the Ju 87G mounted two 37mm Flak 18 cannons in underwing pods. Stuka ace Hans-Ulrich Rudel proposed the configuration, and in the hands of experienced pilots the "Kanonenvogel" ("cannon bird") proved highly effective against tanks.
