Trained in bicycle mechanics, the self-taught Wilbur and Orville applied their knowledge to aviation. And on December 17, 1903, their Wright Flyer took to the air in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Thanks to their ingenuity, aviation today is a trillion dollar industry.
