About the Texas Brigade
Formed in 1861 and composed mainly of the 1st, 4th and 5th Texas Infantry regiments, later joined by the 18th Georgia and Hampton's South Carolina Legion, Hood's Texas Brigade earned a reputation for aggressive, hard-fighting service under commanders including John Bell Hood. The brigade fought in many of the Eastern Theater's major battles, including Antietam, Gettysburg and the Wilderness, and Gen. Robert E. Lee is said to have praised their fighting spirit with the remark, "The Texans always move them."
