Entering service in late 1960, the F-4 Phantom II ranks among the most significant fighters in aviation history, reaching a top speed of Mach 2.2 and carrying up to 18,000 pounds of weaponry. It saw extensive combat during the Vietnam War, where Cunningham and his radar intercept officer became the war's first American flying aces.
