The F-4 Phantom II is a twin-engine all-weather long-range supersonic jet interceptor and fighter-bomber developed by McDonnell Aircraft for the U.S. Navy and later adopted by the Air Force and Marine Corps. Introduced in the 1960s the F-4 became a symbol of American airpower during the Vietnam War. Known for its speed (over Mach 2.2) powerful radar and heavy weapons load it served in various roles including air superiority ground attack and reconnaissance.
