About the F-4F and the 20th Fighter Squadron
The F-4F was a lighter, export variant of the F-4 Phantom II built for West Germany starting in the early 1970s. From 1975 to 2004, the 20th Fighter Squadron at Holloman Air Force Base trained German Luftwaffe pilots on leased F-4Fs under a bilateral training agreement; it was the last operational U.S. Air Force squadron to fly the Phantom, retiring the type when the program ended in December 2004.
