About the F6F Hellcat

Developed by Grumman and introduced in 1943, the F6F Hellcat was built to counter Japan's Mitsubishi A6M Zero, combining rugged construction, heavy firepower and strong pilot protection with speed and maneuverability. Armed with six .50-caliber machine guns, it flew extensively from Navy carriers such as USS Essex during the Pacific War, helping secure Allied air superiority in major carrier battles and island campaigns.
