About George Washington
Washington commanded the Continental Army through the Revolutionary War, generally favoring defensive warfare and avoiding direct confrontation with larger British forces while preserving his own army. His victories included the surprise attack at Trenton after crossing the Delaware River in December 1776 and the siege of Yorktown in 1781, which effectively ended the war. He later served as the first President of the United States.
