About the P-51D Mustang
Widely regarded as the best piston-engine fighter of World War II, the P-51 Mustang was built around the Packard V-12 engine, delivering over 1,600 horsepower and allowing speeds beyond 700 km/h. The P-51D, the most widely produced variant, was armed with six 12.7mm Browning machine guns and flew primarily as a long-range bomber escort over Europe, as well as in the fighter-bomber role.
