About the Tomahawk Mk.IIB and Clive Caldwell
The Tomahawk Mk.IIB was a British variant of the Curtiss P-40, armed with six .303-caliber Browning machine guns and powered by an Allison V-1710 engine; it lacked a turbocharger, limiting high-altitude performance but proving effective in low-level combat with the RAF and Commonwealth forces in North Africa. Group Captain Clive "Killer" Caldwell was the leading Australian fighter ace of World War II, credited with 28.5 aerial victories, many of them scored flying Tomahawks and Kittyhawks with No. 250 Squadron in North Africa.
