About the X-17 Rocket
The X-17 was an American experimental three-stage, solid-fuel rocket developed by the U.S. Air Force in the 1950s to study high-speed reentry into Earth's atmosphere. Standing about 40 feet tall and launched from Cape Canaveral, it could reach speeds over Mach 14, testing materials and designs for heat resistance during reentry and contributing to early research behind ICBM development.
