About the WV-2/EC-121 Warning Star
Serving from 1954 to 1978, the WV-2/EC-121 flew round-the-clock radar patrols for the Airborne Early Warning Squadrons, based in Alaska, Honolulu, Midway and Newfoundland, forming a continuous airborne radar line that watched for possible air attack. The type was used extensively over Southeast Asia between 1965 and 1974 and is considered a forerunner of today's AWACS aircraft.
