About the A-4 Skyhawk
Designed by Ed Heinemann for Douglas Aircraft and nicknamed the "Scooter," the lightweight, subsonic A-4 Skyhawk entered U.S. Navy service in 1956 and saw extensive combat over Vietnam. Later in its career the type became the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels demonstration aircraft before that role passed to the F/A-18 Hornet.
