About the TBD Devastator
At its introduction, the Devastator was the most advanced aircraft flying for the U.S. Navy, but rapid aircraft development left it outdated by the time of the Pearl Harbor attack. It performed well in some early battles, but the Devastators launched at the Battle of Midway were almost totally wiped out, and the type was immediately withdrawn from front-line service in favor of the Grumman TBF Avenger.
