About the Fairey Swordfish
A fabric-covered biplane introduced in the mid-1930s, the Swordfish was a British carrier-borne torpedo bomber with folding wings and an open cockpit for its three-man crew. Though slow and outdated in appearance, it proved highly effective, most famously in the attack on the Italian fleet at Taranto and in helping cripple the German battleship Bismarck.
