About the F2A Buffalo
Introduced in the late 1930s, the Buffalo was one of the U.S. Navy's first monoplane carrier fighters, featuring an all-metal structure, retractable landing gear and an enclosed cockpit. Powered by a Wright R-1820 radial engine and armed with .50- and .30-caliber machine guns, it proved underpowered and outmatched against more modern opponents in early Pacific engagements, though Finnish forces used the type more successfully against Soviet aircraft.
