The Henschel Hs 123A-1 was a rugged German single-seat dive bomber and close-support aircraft introduced in the mid-1930s. Built by Henschel, it was a strut-braced biplane of all-metal construction, powered by a BMW 132 radial engine. Though already outdated in appearance at the outbreak of the Second World War, the Hs 123A-1 proved remarkably durable and effective in ground-attack operations. Armed with two forward-firing machine guns and capable of carrying small bombs beneath its wings, it delivered accurate strikes against troop concentrations, artillery positions, and vehicles. Its strong airframe allowed it to operate from rough forward airstrips, particularly on the Eastern Front. Well-liked by pilots for its reliability and maneuverability at low altitude, it remained in frontline service longer than expected.
