About the Gladiator and No. 247 Squadron
The Gloster Gladiator was the Royal Air Force's last biplane fighter, entering service with No. 72 Squadron in February 1937. During the Battle of Britain, No. 247 Squadron flew Gladiators on standing patrols to protect the Royal Navy dockyard at Devonport, though the squadron did not engage the Luftwaffe in combat during that period.
