About the Hawker Hurricane
Designed by Hawker Aircraft and entering RAF service in 1937, the Hurricane was the Royal Air Force's most numerous fighter at the outbreak of World War II. Powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, it accounted for more enemy aircraft destroyed during the Battle of Britain than all other British defenses combined, and it went on to serve as a fighter-bomber and in ground-attack roles throughout the war.
