About the M109
First issued to U.S. Army units in 1963, the M109 mounts a 155mm howitzer on a tracked, armored chassis to keep pace with maneuver forces, and it saw combat with both the Army and Marine Corps in the Vietnam War. Repeatedly upgraded over six decades, it remains the most widely used Western self-propelled howitzer.
