About the M1 Abrams
The M1 Abrams was developed by Chrysler Defense (now General Dynamics Land Systems) to replace the M60 Patton. Starting with the M1A1, it mounts a 120mm smoothbore main gun, a licensed Rheinmetall design built as the M256, and is powered by a 1,500-horsepower gas turbine engine.
