The Messerschmitt Me 410 Hornisse ("Hornet") was a German twin-engine heavy fighter and attack aircraft used during World War II. Developed as an improved successor to the troubled Me 210, the Me 410 featured a redesigned fuselage, better handling characteristics, and more powerful Daimler-Benz engines. Introduced in 1943, it served in multiple roles, including bomber destroyer, reconnaissance aircraft, ground-attack platform, and night fighter. Armed with a formidable combination of cannons, machine guns, and defensive remote-controlled gun turrets, the Me 410 was particularly effective against Allied bomber formations. Although fast and heavily armed, it became increasingly vulnerable to Allied escort fighters such as the P-51 Mustang. Despite this, it remained one of Germany's most versatile combat aircraft.
Hauptmann Eduard Tratt was a highly decorated German Luftwaffe fighter pilot and commander during World War II. Born in 1919, he became one of Germany's leading night fighter aces, credited with more than 35 aerial victories, the majority achieved during nocturnal operations against Allied bombers. Tratt flew aircraft such as the Messerschmitt Bf 110 and later served in key leadership positions within Germany's night fighter force. His combat success earned him the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, one of Germany's highest military decorations. Tratt was killed in action in 1944 while leading a combat mission.
