About the TBM-3 Avenger
Originally designed by Grumman as the TBF Avenger, aircraft built under license by General Motors were designated TBM. The TBM-3 variant featured a more powerful Wright R-2600 engine and improved armament, and its three-man crew flew it in major Pacific battles including Midway, as well as later anti-submarine warfare roles, making it one of the most successful naval aircraft of the war.
