About the A6M2 Zero
The Mitsubishi A6M2 Model 21 Zero was the Imperial Japanese Navy's primary carrier-based fighter in the early years of World War II, entering service in 1940. Powered by a Nakajima Sakae radial engine and armed with two 20mm cannons and two machine guns, it was prized for its long range, climb rate and maneuverability, though its light construction left it increasingly vulnerable as Allied fighters improved. This particular aircraft flew with the 381st Kokutai from Sorong Airbase in the Dutch East Indies, wearing a distinctive dual-color scheme.
