About the P-51D Mustang
Developed by North American Aviation and powered by a Packard-built Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, the P-51D Mustang could escort Allied bombers deep into enemy territory while holding its own in air combat, armed with six .50-caliber machine guns and capable of speeds exceeding 430 mph. Its long range helped secure Allied air dominance over Europe.
About George Preddy
Born in 1919, George Preddy flew the P-51 with the 352nd Fighter Group and became the U.S. Army Air Forces' highest-scoring Mustang ace, credited with 26.83 aerial victories, most against German aircraft over Europe. He was killed in December 1944 when he was accidentally shot down by friendly anti-aircraft fire during the Battle of the Bulge.
